Paulette
Goddard was Ziegfeld's girl on the cresent moon, a darling of the
silver screen, favorite of Hollywood leading actors, owner of an
antique shop and collector of lovely jewelry.
It
is said that she inspired the popular charm bracelet and indeed,
she was given many beautiful charms by admirers and friends.

While married to Charlie Chaplin, he gifted her with an enchanting
18k gold bracelet with matching earrings. They were emerald flowers
and pave-set diamonds.
In 1939 she lost the leading role of Scarlett O'Hara to Vivien
Leigh. The financier of the movie sent her a little present to
cheer her up... an gold monkey with a 5 carat diamond in its tail.
But Paulette Goddard was not just an actress, she was a business
woman and philanthropist too. In 1947 she opened a successful
antique shop. On her death in 1990, she left more than $20 million
for scholarships to film and drama students at New York University.
This money has also gone on to fund university's Remarque Institute,
created to support and promote the study and discussion of Europe.
